What Do You Want to Be When You Grow Up?

First Annual Crushed on the Block

Jam at Ballard’s was a great day.

When was the last time you asked yourself that question?

Maybe it sounds silly. Maybe it makes you smirk. Maybe you think that ship has sailed.
But I ask myself this all the time—because to me, the day we stop growing is the day we start slowly dying.

This past week was an a-ha moment for me as I brought a long-held dream to life: I hosted a Dance Jam class at Ballard’s on Block Island.

I’ve always known this class was special—not because I think I’m some great dancer, or because it’s the secret weapon to your dream body. It’s because when I teach this class, it’s the one space where I get to see the most authentic version of everyone in the room. There’s genuine laughter, joy, and the kind of carefree energy that invites you to dance your ass off.

Yes, it’s a workout. You’ll burn calories, fire up muscle fibers, and challenge your brain with shifting moves—but the real magic is what happens after class ends. People stay. They keep dancing. They’re not ready to leave.

That’s what I dreamed of creating 17 years ago.

To be fully transparent, I wanted to recreate the feeling you get at a wedding reception—when that one song comes on and everyone runs to the dance floor... and the rest is pure magic.

Daring to dream is the secret of life. Taking action on your dreams is how you stay young.

Here’s a quote I love:
“The universe favors the brave. When you resolve to live your life to its biggest level, the strength of your soul will guide you to a magical place with magnificent treasures.”
The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari

Sometimes, the most powerful thing we can do is say yes to something that has no logical reason—just a deep soul longing.

Every single person who showed up last week could have made an excuse.
They could’ve said:
“I don’t have time.”
“I’m not in shape.”
“Maybe next time.”
But they didn’t.
They came.
They danced.
They smiled.

And they told me afterward, “This is exactly what I needed.”

We had people from ages 20 to 65. We had old-school clients and brand-new ones. We had breast cancer survivors and women currently navigating illness. And that—that is the real success story.
Not perfect bodies.
Not packed calendars.
But moments like that, when you feel fully alive.

As a coach, I’d be remiss not to mention this:
Dreams work when you do.

And if you’re dreaming of something bigger than what you have now, it’s not selfish. It’s not vain or greedy.
It’s your soul reminding you—you are still growing.

I also believe every coach needs a coach. I’m part of a mastermind group. I read things that inspire me. I listen to podcasts every week. I journal. I reflect. I give myself permission to dream—and to do the work. Because the words I speak to my clients matter. And that means staying connected to my own fuel.

And how do I do that?
By tapping into one of the most magical gifts we all have—
Willpower.

But willpower alone isn’t enough. It has to be aligned.
It takes checking in with yourself:
Are your goals truly yours?
Or are they shaped by someone else’s idea of success?
Are they outdated versions of who you used to be?

That’s why having a coach matters.
Discipline and accountability are gifts.
A good coach won’t just push you—they’ll help you listen. They’ll help you remember your “why.”

If you’ve been longing to move your body again…
If you’ve been daydreaming about a version of yourself that once existed…
Let me be the one to whisper to you:

She still lives within you.

All it takes is one brave step to awaken her.
Release the need to control the outcome.
Fall back in love with the wonder of not knowing what will come next.
What matters is that you choose you.

Every step you take, you’ll shine brighter.
You’ll glow like a goddess.
